Turning Your Blogging Hobby Into a Job

Standard

I’m a blogger. He is a blogger. Every 5th is a blogger. But do we look at our blogs as to a hobby or a job? Some people have strong feelings with respect to make money out of their blogs. In fact, there are two sides of the medal. You can either commercialize your blog and earn quite a good money on a monthly basis, or stay faithful to what you do, taking it as a charity. Both cases are absolutely fine.

Let’s start from the very beginning. You’ve got, for example, WordPress blog theme, installed it, started to write earth-shattering posts, drew readers’ attention, and in a month was hoping for crazy results. Nope. It is not going to happen SO fast! It is possible to make money from your blog, but it is important to have realistic expectations. It takes hard work and is not going to happen over a few weeks. But don’t give up with this idea. You just need a bit of patience, luck and this article =)

Successful bloggers, like all successful entrepreneurs, have two jobs: first, to learn as much as they can about earning an online income; second, to try different things until they find what works for their blog.

So how to step away from blogger-on-the-side to blogging for someone else? Building and showing your skills through a personal blog is a great place to start. And from there, here are some key things you’ll need to turn your hobby into a job.

 Step 1

The best blogs are more than just text. They include high-quality visuals, an appealing layout, creative content, and interactive features. Try taking your own photos instead of using standard images, or try your hand at customizing a header.

 Step 2

Learn how to write quality content. It’s not new that Google has always advocated for quality and evergreen content. Of course, having a writer’s talent doesn’t guarantee more money, but what you do with your skill is what can bring the money. In all, sharpen your writing skills and gain traction by being everywhere.

Step 3

One of the best ways for a blog to get traffic is to comment on other blogs. Commenting with a thoughtful and provocative response will often send a few visitors your way. The blogging community is generally a very social community and those who are active in the community often reaping the rewards of it.

Step 4

I won’t deep into a black magic of SEO tips, there are far more articles and books about it. But don’t forget to learn this area well enough to apply the skills for your blog. Just like most of the things you will learn while blogging, you don’t need to be an expert at it – just having a working knowledge will provide great results.
